A fellow Hayate the Combat Butler and Negima! fan pinged me the other day and provided me with two, sweet images.Β Apparently, Hata-sensei and Akamatsu-sensei collaborated on these two images, which were an omake in volume 28 of the Hayate no Gotoku tankoubon in Japan.
This is so awesome, especially since these are both favorite manga titles of mine. Hayate the Combat Butler has been known to toss a reference at Negima! from time to time (the classroom roster from Negima! was parodied in Hayate in a long-running gag).Β I haven’t seen a toss-back from Akamatsu-sensei, but then at the moment, the story really isn’t set up to do such a thing. Maybe once the Magic World arc ends and they all return to Earth, a comedy mini-arc might parody Hayate the Combat Butler. That would be fun. ^_^
I have to say that the character designs for Hayate, Maria, and Nagi are a little shocking to me. I knew Hata-sensei had done some character design changes as a more recent image was brought to my attention a few months ago. However, not being current with the Japanese manga, I’m used to seeing the characters as they look with the last Viz release. ^_^;
Anyway, thanks to Hitoshi for sharing these images with me and to whomever scanned them initially.
If Viz manages to make it this far, I bet they don’t include these images in their release of volume 28.
Negi! Hayate! Take those clothes off! Wait, don’t take em off! …GAH so much confusion!
They were actually in two separate releases – the Hayate one came with Negima! 34, and the Negi came with Hayate 28. There’s a nice little stand where you can put both of them up side-by-side. ^^

Heh! More so in light of what CanonRap says. ^_^; Neither they nor Kodansha Comics are likely to release this as an extra. Shame really.

Well, its not like Negi does much cross dressing, but he did do it and thus the fact that the two male leads would be cross dressing again (Hayate having done it more than once) came off as funny to me.

Were these with the regular edition releases? I’m behind on collecting the Japanese version of Negima! after Sasuga went out of business. I’d kinda like to have these, though they’d be kinda small images considering the size of Japanese tankoubons.
This pic should give you an idea of its size. I’m pretty sure they’re Limited Edition only.
Thanks for that share, CanonRap. ^_^
